Hottest People in CS

A very good friend of mine and I spent hours trying to think of the most attractive people in computer science -- both male and female. Although the field is not known for its high fashion or great looking people, we did manage to come up with a number of good candidates (and despite neither of us being gay, we spent significantly longer compiling the list of males, probably because the percentage of men in our field is much higher).

I thought it would be fun(ny?) to open up this critically important discussion to the public. So, below I invite you to post the names of the people you think are the best looking in the field of computer science. Some ground rules:
  • The person must be alive.
  • The person must either be actively doing computer science research or have done so in the past. That means PhD students, professors, industry researchers, etc. are all valid. Examples of invalid submissions are: Paris Hilton (even though she knows how to use her phone) and Al Gore (even though he “invented the Internet”).
  • I don’t think pictures can be posted in the comments below (if somebody figures out how to do it, please let me know). BUT, it's best if you submit a link to a picture of every person you mention.
  • I encourage you to submit names both from your own gender and the opposite.

  1. Dawson Engler is clearly a top candidate here, especially from his bodybuilding days:

  3. Um, Daniel Roy (@MIT), without a doubt.

(A little searching will find a couple of pictures.)

  4. If we are generous and count mathematicians as computer scientists, Barbara Meier should be mentioned (http://preview.tinyurl.com/m3vr6g she's the redhead on the right).

  5. Has she done research in math or simply got an undergrad degree in math?

  6. Muriel Medard at MIT.

  9. Luis, shouldn't you just set up a GWAP to resolve this question objectively? I'm sure you could get a student to help out with building http://amiahotcomputerscientistornot.com/

  10. Mike Kearns UPenn in the male category.
In the female category "LUIS VON AHN ARELLANO" :)

  11. Alright. Enough with this. I appreciate your effort but it is futile. Here are several reasons.

    1. He/she should be one of the hottest right now. Being hot 20 years ago shouldn't count. Who cares? That's so 20 years ago.

    2. Many ethnic groups will be underrepresented just because the panel of judges is you and your friend (sorry Luis, you are not going to be objective when it comes down to figuring out who it the hottest male/female) and there isn't that many people nominating them.

    3. Have you revolutionized the "(you know what goes in here)" yet?

Then S/he would CS Universe :O
Well, as you know beauty is a conterversial issue, everyone has his own measures! I don't have any one in my mind, So gonna wait and see :)

For the links, I suggest everyone should use HTML tags so it will appear as a link, as following, (in case u don't know):

    *a href="your link"* his/her Name */a*

instead of the '*' use "<" for 1st and ">" for 2nd and so on..

This would be much easier :)

  40. Shuchi Chawla from UWisc. She is ultra cute.

  41. I'm assuming this is related to your previous post, in which case, why not just use a real actor? If they're good enough to look fluent in foreign languages etc, they should be able to give a 1hr lecture and look like they actually know what they're talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I guess any female in CS would be a reasonable pick. Maybe except this one person "laura dabbish" if you've heard of her.

Plus, he's got that sexy Italian accent. Talk about giving me an NP-hard reduction...

  50. I dunno why people are stretching the rules to select models that have majored in subjects in undergrad only remotely related to CS. There are plenty of attractive women to nominate.

Michele Banko, BS CMU, PhD UW, http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/banko/

Kristen Grauman, PhD MIT, UT Prof, http://www.cs.utexas.edu/~grauman/

    Professor: Klaus Sutner
Hollywood name and lifetyle while being a elite researcher. www.cs.cmu.edu/~sutner/private.html

    Degree Holder: Masi Oka
Star from TV show Heroes. B.S. from Brown. Worked in digitial effects which is not hardcore CS but as long as we have ETC, it counts. He is not attractive, but if 0.001% of Heroes viewer think he is hot, that is more people who think he is hot than the number of people that recognize any tenured professors.

    Hacker: Joanna Rutkowska
Wiki her. For amount of industry contrbution she has made, can't ask for a hotter girl. (i.e. best equilibrium point between hotness and smartness)
